SOFIA SIGHTS & ATTRACTIONS - What to See & Do
Sofia has a charming old town centre and loads of parks spread far and wide, while hundreds of historic landmarks line the streets and squares. Sofia has the distinction of being the highest capital in Europe and also comes with fine shopping options and a huge number of buzzing cafés, bars and clubs.
The main attractions in Sofia are convenient to get to as they can mainly be found in the centre of town. Maria Louiza Boulevard is the best place for people watching and also comes with the Banya Bashi Dzhamiya mosque, while the Central Baths (Tsentralnata Banya) and the Central Food Halls (Tsentralni Hali) are also nearby. An absolute must-see in Sofia is the Alexander Nevski cathedral, a fabulous looking church of neo-Byzantine design topped off with gold and copper domes.
There are also many decent attractions within easy reach of Sofia, including Mount Vitosha, which lies just a few miles south of town and is one of the country’s most popular ski resorts. The chair lifts also run in the summer for hikers and sightseers.
